The thyroid gland is a gland located in the neck that regulates several bodily functions such as the production of T4 and T3 hormones. These hormones regulate our metabolism and affect other systems in our body. When the thyroid gland is working properly, you do not need to follow your diet, but you should be aware of the conditions in which the thyroid gland either produces too many hormones (hyperthyroidism) or not enough (hypothyroidism). Below is a list of foods that help regulate the thyroid gland organically.

Iodine deficiency is a direct cause of thyroid dysfunction and many people in the world suffer from it. When thyroid dysfunction occurs, the diet that governs it should be followed. The following sections give you basic information on how to treat thyroid dysfunction.

Dietary recommendations for hyperthyroidism

As we mentioned earlier, hyperthyroidism, or hyperthyroidism, is a condition in which the thyroid gland produces too many hormones. When there are too many hormones in our body, we can lose weight and lose muscle mass. A balanced diet that includes energy-rich foods is always recommended.

This hypothyroidism manifests as weakness, fatigue, hair loss and can also cause weight gain.  The diet should be balanced and varied.

Avoid fats, sugars and calories

  • Processed foods and red meat contain too much fat.
  • Margarine, butter and lard.
  • Sugars, both white and dark, and sugary confectionery.
  • Alcoholic beverages and sugary beverages.

Recommendations

  • Eat small portions 4 to 5 times a day and avoid snacking between meals; avoid experimenting with new foods.
  • Increase your daily exercise. Walk and avoid the escalator and elevator.
  • Stay on high-fiber foods such as raw vegetables, steamed vegetables and fruits.
