The easiest way to start growing a lemon is to cut a part of the root of a living tree. However, this can be more difficult to accomplish than obtaining seeds, so this time we advise you to grow your own lemon tree using seeds.

The lemon tree also grows at home but remember that the process we present is very rewarding and enjoyable, but keep in mind that your  tree may not bear any fruit for three to six years. If this doesn’t discourage you, keep reading in wonder so you can enjoy home grown and organic lemon!

What is needed to plant lemon seeds?

Lemon seeds can first be grown in a pot and then transferred to the soil in your garden depending on the climate. It can be a very long process, but the results are definitely worth the effort!

To do this, you need the accessories we present below:

One lemon

In order to be successful in planting a lemon tree with seeds, you need to buy a lemon that is 100% organic. This will help you avoid the effects of insecticides. Organic lemon tree also grows at home. 

If the lemon is not organic, this fruit is usually “sterile,” and then, despite your efforts, it is not possible to produce wood.

If you have only limited space or sub-optimal climatic conditions, we recommend that you choose a Meyer- quality lemon. It is a smaller variety and is often used for decoration.

Pots

If you are not going to plant the seeds directly in your garden, look for a small pot with holes in the bottom for draining the liquid.

Lemon trees like width instead of depth, so choose a pot with plenty of width.

Soil

Try to find organic soil, and then use natural fertilizers to support growth.

Plenty of sunlight

Lemon trees need a lot of sun, and this is especially true when they are just sprouting. If you are planting in a pot, place it in  a place with plenty of natural sunlight.

Steps of growing a lemon tree

Phase 1

Put the mold in a pot and moisten it with water until you feel it is comfortably moist.

Step 2

Leave a few centimeters of space from the surface of the soil to the top of the pot.

Step 3

Cut the lemon in half, remove its seeds and suck them until you feel the taste gone.

Make sure the seeds are very moist to make them easier to germinate.

Step 4

Make a small, 2.5 cm deep hole in the soil, put the seed in there and cover the hole with soil.

Step 5

Then spray a little water from the spray bottle to wet the soil around the seed.

Step 6

Cover the pot with light and breathable plastic to protect the soil from moisture. You can either choose plastic wrap or a bag with small holes.

Step 7

Put the pot in a warm place where it gets as much sunlight as possible.

Step 8

After this step, make sure the mold stays moisturized most of the time.

However, avoid exposing the seeds to intense heat or moisture,  as this can cause them to rot.

Step 9

After two or three weeks have passed, you may notice a lemon tree starting to grow through the surface of the soil. At this point, you will need to remove the plastic so that the wood can breathe better.

Step 10

Keep an eye on your plants every day, and keep pests away. Add plenty of organic fertilizer that nourishes the plant effectively.

Once your tree has grown clearly, you can move it to your garden and continue to observe the growth.

Since the first seeds do not always germinate, we recommend that you plant several lemon seeds at the same time. This will help you improve your chances of getting the lemon tree you want and valuable .
