The lower back area is an important part of the body that constantly causes pain and discomfort to some people. Standing or sitting for several hours is a determining factor, but it is also affected by diet, emotions, lack or lack of exercise, digestive and intestinal diseases, etc.

The kidneys are also directly connected to the lower back area;  they are located between the lower back and the middle back. Therefore, it is a good idea to take care of your kidneys as well.

1. Hot water flow

The lower back is generally one part of the body that values ​​heat.  It does not respond well to cold, humidity and being in place.

This treatment is based on hydrotherapy,  which means that it uses the therapeutic benefits of different water temperatures, in this case hot water.

How is it done?

  • Spray a stream of hot water, moving from side to side,  gradually raising the temperature of the water until it is hot.
  • Do this for 3-4 minutes, preferably sitting down.
  • It is best for someone else to do this for you so that you can sit comfortably in a plastic chair, for example.
  • This treatment should not be used if you have sciatica  or hernia.

2. Variable temperatures

This treatment also uses water, but at different temperatures. The alternating use of cold and hot water helps to improve blood circulation and soothe inflammation as well as pain. 

This therapy is also done by someone else. You need to have hot and cold (not too cold) water at your fingertips, as well as two towels or a medium-sized cloth.

How is it done?

  • Soak the towel in hot water, dry it and put it on the lower back area. You should lie face down.
  • Leave on for 30-60 seconds.
  • Then do the same with cold water.
  • Do this at least 5 times at each temperature,  and finish with warm water.
  • Then dry your lower back well and keep it covered.

3. Sesame and arnica massage

This is a good massage that will always help soothe back pain.  The lower back area is also one of the few areas you can reach with your own hands, although it is always more practical if you have someone else doing it.

For this massage, use sesame oil, which also helps to raise the heat in this area. Mix it with arnica  (as an oil, cream or gel) that has a high anti-inflammatory power.

How is it done?

  • First, start by gently massaging to bring warmth to the area and prepare it. Do not apply too much pressure.
  • Then concentrate your pressure on each side of the spine, using vertical movements.
  • Apply proper compression around the hips to relieve tension on the sides. Grab what you can with your hands and pull slowly to separate the tissues and make them flexible.

4. Cabbage bath

This treatment can also be done at home, and all you need is a few leaves of raw cabbage. Radicals have anti-inflammatory properties that can be used in any area you want to soothe  (dysmenorrhea abdomen, knees knee pain, etc.).

How is it done?

  • Take 4-6 cabbage leaves. The greener the better.
  • Take a pot of water and bring to a boil. Soak the leaves for just a few seconds, no longer than 10.
  • Then place them on a cutting board and crush them slightly to loosen their juice.
  • Apply to the lower back area while they are still hot.  Then cover them with a cloth or rag, and then with a dry towel.
  • Leave on for 15 minutes.
  • Do this two to three times a day.
